Project Description

The homeowner of a picturesque oceanfront property in Gloucester, Massachusetts approached us with the goal of creating a custom-designed greenhouse promising beauty and ease of use. The vision called for a durable, four-season horticultural structure that could withstand coastal New England’s challenging salt air and seasonal weather while serving as an eye-catching architectural centerpiece on the estate grounds. The result is a magnificent 26′ x 16′ freestanding aluminum greenhouse featuring a distinctive cantilevered front canopy over the entry.

Sunspace Design worked directly with the homeowner and their trusted team of subcontractors by providing expert design, technical support, precision fabrication, and professional installation. The structure features an ultra-durable AAMA 2605 powder-coated finish in Hunter Green to prevent chalking and color fading over time. To ensure an ideal, stable growing environment, we incorporated high-performance Cardinal Low-E 272 tempered-over-laminated insulated safety glass alongside an automated climate system featuring four thermal ridge vents, seven operable awning windows, and two 12″ horizontal air flow (HAF) fans.

Inside the greenhouse, our woodworkers contributed a shop-built natural mahogany potting bench. This workspace is further outfitted with a utility sink and ample custom cabinetry. The finished result stands as a testament to what is possible when a homeowner’s distinct vision is paired with specialized glass design-build expertise.
