Project Description

Commercial projects are always a great opportunity for Sunspace. Most of the beautiful residential projects we complete for New England homeowners are privately enjoyed, but commercial additions or renovations give us a chance to leave our mark on important public spaces. Some of these spaces are used by hundreds or even thousands of people on a daily basis. Just as importantly, these commercial construction projects usually give us an opportunity to work with fellow regional professionals to deliver great products for clients. There’s always something to learn from the builders, designers, architects, and craftsmen we consider colleagues and friends.

The stunning commercial entryway renovation depicted here was a joy to work on. To complete it, we teamed up with DeStefano Architects (out of Portsmouth, NH) and Pine Brook Corporation (out of Kittery, ME), who served as the general contractor. Our role centered on the manufacture and installation of an elegant and dramatic glass roof and skylight system positioned at the entrance of the bank. This large and exquisitely crafted glass roof sits atop an interior lobby area that provides access to the bank proper.

Framing is mahogany and flashing is copper. The glass roof has a central dormer section with a hidden steel ridge beam for added durability and strength. Exterior glass is high-performance Solarban 70 XL tempered glass units (1.25” thick), whereas argon gas-filled, insulated, heat-strengthened laminated safety glass is used on the interior. A living plant wall on the entryway lobby’s interior completes the look of the new space.
