Project Overview
This classic Belmont home receives a kitchen addition which seamlessly blends the old and new.
✓ This project includes a general kitchen expansion.
✓ The client wished to keep some of the existing cabinetry, and new, matching cabinets were added.
✓ A key goal was to maintain the character and style of the existing kitchen while providing much-needed space.
Project Description
This Belmont, Massachusetts kitchen expansion was the second project Sunspace Design completed for the homeowners. We had delivered a gorgeous porch enclosure the year prior, and the clients returned so that we could help with this truly unique project.
The kitchen renovation and addition presented a handful of difficult challenges. Although the expansion was not large, it required the removal of exterior walls which in turn required structural engineering and the introduction of a steel carrying beam. The ceiling was also modified to a more open concept frame in the process. Along with these changes, we added new windows matching the existing ones. This allowed us to match the existing architecture of the home while providing the clients with the new space they sought.
The final challenge was the modification and enhancement of the kitchen itself. This was achieved through the use of custom designed kitchen cabinetry which perfectly mirrored the existing cabinets. We’re proud to say that we provided our clients with the space, style, and look they had hoped to achieve. The new space is a beloved addition to their home.
