A Pyramid Skylight in Winchester, MA
In Winchester, Massachusetts, clients looking to uplift an interior stairwell recently completed a stunning custom skylight project with our help. The project is proof that natural light can elevate a functional space into an inspirational one! We were proud to work alongside the teams at dEmios Architects of Arlington, MA, and Allen Construction from Middleton, MA. By delivering a 7’ x 7’ glass pyramid skylight that joins classic craftsmanship with modern performance, our combined effort has had a transformative effect on the client’s property.
The skylight’s bespoke design was realized with a robust, solid mahogany frame that forms the structural heart of its pyramidal shape. Mahogany is prized for its beauty and durability. Our skilled woodworkers used a combination of techniques including doweled and mortise and tenon joinery. These exceptionally stable connections are critical for a structure built to last for decades.
The skylight’s exterior is clad in elegant copper which provides superior weather protection that’s essential in the variable New England climate. It also promises to develop a beautiful natural patina that will continue to add character over time. High-performance Solarban 70 insulated glass panes were selected to ensure the space below benefits from ample daylight without excessive solar heat gain. Let’s take a closer look at how the details came together:

Wood dowels are carefully inserted at a rafter joint.
This traditional technique ensures a robust and precisely aligned connection.

The second set of rafters utilizes mortise and tenon joinery.
All four joints have been securely fastened for maximum stability.
